to remotely lock deadbolt
The installation is easy, just tricky. The model 914 install procedures are not as obvious as model 888. Step 4 & 5 is critical. After it doesn't lock the door:1) remove battery,2) hold down the outside "lock" button.3) then drop the battery pack in.4) release outside "lock" button after a second. The instructions are very clear, but the hold down the button part was not.

DON'T WASTE YOUR MONEY - BAD PRODUCT AND TERRIBLE CUSTOMER SERVICE
PLEASE DO NOT WASTE YOUR MONEY ON THIS PRODUCT. I purchased this lock and the matching handle set (Kwikset 98180-001 - $273.48) in October 2020 for my new impact front door, so overall it was about $462. I was initially happy with the product and the batteries required changing every 3-4 months. However, in December 2021 the lock started making a clicking noise and it drained the batteries very quickly. I followed the troubleshooting guide on Kwikset's website and changed the batteries and performed the door handling test. The new batteries drained in a week.I am an airplane mechanic by profession so understand mechanical and electric matters. In addition to the troubleshooting steps from Kwikset, I removed the motor assembly from the door and manually locked and unlocked the deadbolt to check if it was binding, and it was not. With the motor assembly removed from the door I operated it and the motor clicked and sounded like it was straining to move, but it had no load on it, so I determined there was a fault inside the motor assembly. It is important to remember that the lock was operating - it would open and close using the electronic keypad, but it sounded like the motor was straining, and the batteries drained after another 7 days or so. After replacing the batteries 3 times in a 4 week period I contacted Kwikset customer support and told them all that I had done.It took them 3 days to respond and they gave me the standard reply - change the batteries and perform the door handling test. I wrote back and told them to re-read my initial email. They replied 4 days later saying they had read my first message but needed me to do as they asked which was change the batteries again and perform a door handling test, and send them a photo of the front and back of the lock. They said if I did this "we can move forward with a replacement". (The lock has a lifetime mechanical warranty but 1 year electronic warranty, so from the testing I had done it seemed like a mechanical fault and Kwikset must have thought so as they said they would move forward with a replacement if I did the test). So I complied, installed new batteries and performed the test starting with the deadbolt in the locked position. It moved in, but then the motor started clicking and it moved back out but did not stop half way as they said it should - it returned to the fully locked position. When I pressed the lock button on the keypad it did not move the lock. If I manually locked the door and then entered the code on the keypad it would unlock it, but again when pressing the lock button on the keypad it would not lock. So clearly the initial fault had become worse, and perhaps no surprise when continuing to operate a faulty lock.I reported this to Kwikset and sent them the photos and the next day (01/27/22) they replied saying "we're sorry, the lock you have is no longer under the electronic warranty, you will need to use the lock with your keys".So my $188 lock is useless after 15 months, and from this experience I will not be buying another Kwikset product so will now have to replace the handle set as well to ensure they match a new lock when I buy one.I don't think their customer support is based in the USA given the time it takes them to respond. This has to be the worst customer support I have received from a manufacturer so my advice is stay away from this product.
