Great deal for the money
I searched for a simple train set for my grandchildren, 2 girls, 3 & 4. This one had many accessories, people, buildings, cars, buses and a boat. Lots to make stories with. The only complaint would be that they should attach velcro to the buildings and their roofs would keep the city buildings together. Similar to Thomas the Train, and the other wooden train sets but better buy. Several of the other train sets didn't have much except tracks, a train and maybe 2 people. This is a very nice train set. Worth the money.

Great tracks for less $$
Everything arrived safe and sound. Good quality. I built a train table for the kiddo and chose to screw the tracks down due to age and trying to corral the chaos. One of the smallest pieces of track split but it was operator error. Pilot holes are your friends. Fits other brands tracks nicely as well. The bridge is sturdy (read: withstands a three year old's weight). Very happy this less expensive version of tracks are available. No regrets.

t's a good starter set for my 2 yr old grandson
t's a good starter set for my 2 yr old grandson. The only think I would like to see in this set to have a stability of the tracks especially the bridge. Also the trains should be a little heavier to stay on the track.

A Wooden Railway Starter Kit
The Town and Country Train Set from Bigjigs is a good starter pack for a wooden railway collection. It is perfectly compatible with other wooden railway sets and is of a perfectly usable quality. Two years of hands-on testing have so far not caused any of the set to fail. This set includes enough track to form a figure of eight plus a large loop. It makes for an interesting combination and enough for small users to enjoy over time. The set includes a level crossing which seems to inspire additional play options. There is no way a small person could put the set together in the layout it is designed for so it is up to a bigger person to help out. The instructions are simple enough to follow and easy to put together. The use of three-point pieces is a simple way to add in different routes. The downside to the set is the bridge. It is not so well constructed. The bridge uses two free-standing supports which are so easy to knock over and lead to frustration. The inadequacy of the bridge leads to a need to upgrade to something like the Viaduct. The other free standing pieces that make up the town and country set are just for show. They are not especially exciting and do not form part of the core wooden railway experience for a small person. They help round out the experience but so many free standing pieces mean a lot of things that fall over. They may well be a better set of pieces as a small person gets a bit bigger but it is really the wooden railway itself that is the attraction rather than the peripheral things.Bigjigs is a company producing excellent products. The Town and Country Train Set has been the bedrock of a lot of play without failures. The bridge is too frustrating and needs to be replaced but other than that the track itself is quality. The extras are not really worth the extra cost they presumably generate but as a starter set it works well and has led to a lot of joy.

Beware branding may vary from some sellers (ie not acutally bigjigs)
I ordered what I thought was this product on the 6th December 2013 from the Toy and Games store as it was the first choice on the list of sellers and proceeded to payment as usual with no concerns. The product arrived in good time on 12th December, however I was dismayed to find that it was not a Bigjigs rail set at all but a generic poor quality imitation. I was initially suspicious as the external packaging was very makeshift with bits taped on here and there and the order receipt screwed up inside. The pictures on the box are clearly of a much poorer quality but very similar product to the branded Bigjigs town and country set.The receipt that came in the box refers to the product being Bigjigs, however then in the comments section states 'Branding may differ'. This prompted me to go back through my purchase and see if I had missed this comment when I initially ordered as I would obviously not have bought it if I had seen this. However on replicating my purchase at no point in the system does it say it may not be a genuine Bigjigs product. If you click on '2 new' blue highlighted bit at the bottom of the product description, you can see the comment there and see the Bigjigs seller option, however there would be no necessity to go through this step in a normal purchase. I didn't click on this bit as I had no need to.My concern is that this seller (The Toy and Games Store) is sending out products under the Bigjigs company name and they are probably relying on the majority of people not realising or not bothering to return items. The comments on here are a little variable and I wonder if some of them are referring to the inferior quality product, as I find the quality of Bigjigs products good value for money on the whole.I was able to return the imitation item with no quibble from the seller and have been refunded via Amazon however I would like to warn others of my experience as it was rather frustrating and I feel extremely disingenuous of the sellers as the 'branding may vary' comment is not clearly apparent when making a purchase.I have since purchased a genuine Bigjigs railway, still through Amazon but through a genuine bigjigs seller for a couple of pounds more and am very happy with the delivery and quality.
