Waeco TCX21 12v 24v Cool Box by Jacksons Leisure

Have to say that we're extremely disappointed with this coolbox, especially at the price, and simply cannot recommend it due to the poor cooling performance and high noise level.We were looking for an upgrade from a basic 5+ year old Halfords own 24 litre powered toolbox that we used in the back of the car in Europe this summer - the Halfords one had a claimed 16c below ambient cooling capability, and it was OK-ish but didn't cool that quickly and was a bit noisy. We investigated the full on compressor coolboxes, but were put off by their price and weight - the TCX21 seemed to be the perfect compromise, as it claimed to cool to 30c below ambient, to go as low as 0c, and only produce 41db, and had the built in 240v connection. OK, at £180 it's well over 3 times as expensive as the alternatives from Halfords and the like, but we thought it would be worth it if it did what it said on the tin.However, the reality is VERY different.For one thing, the noise that it produces is simply awful, and much noisier than out old Halfords box. Unless you have your stereo cranked right up all the time you're driving, the noise form this would be very intrusive. Out of interest I borrowed a decent quality sound meter from a mate and tried a test.. our kitchen had a background noise level alone of 42db, so in theory you wouldn't be able to hear the box - however, testing it at 1m distance (which is how noise levels must be tested), this box produced 51.3db. I did the same test with the Halfords box, and that was 46db.Then the more important cooling performance, which was, errm 'interesting': I ran it for over 12 hours overnight plugged into the mains, and set it at maximum cooling. I also ran the Halfords box next to it so I'd have a direct comparison. The room was 20c. I put a glass of water into each box to take the temps from them. The next morning, in the TXC21 the water was 5c (so nowhere near the advertised 0c capability) - yet in the Halfords one it was 4c - OK not much colder, but it was actually better, and bang on the advertised 16c below ambient claim as well, and all for a fraction of the price.It went back for a refund. Unfortunately the seller was less than helpful and made the process unnecessarily painful - in fact they then laughably claimed that they tested it themselves and that it cooled to 30.1c below ambient, and got down to MINUS 8.6c!! yeah right... if that sort of fake news is true, Donald Trump will be buying these by the lorry load.So all in all, cooling performance is nothing special at all, and can be achieved elsewhere for a fraction of the money - and your ears probably will not thank you. I did not test the 'warming' capability so can't comment on that.To be fair, perhaps the one we had was faulty, although it did not show up any error lights. More likely the advertised performance is nothing special at all - the response from the seller suggests to us that this was more likely.

Brilliant, internal capacity not as big as previous Waeco product but fits exactly under bed in husbands truck, keeps a weeks food fresh so he is self sufficient not having to rely on buying meals from elsewhere throughout week

This is the only chiller I've found that can keep my injections at 2-8℃ when I am touring Africa where ambient is often above 30.

Das Gerät ist TOP, es ist natürlich noch nicht Sommer, aber innerhalb einer Stunde, bei voller Kühlbetrieb (zuhause als Test, bei +22C) eine 1,5L Flasche wurde sehr gut abgekühlt. Danach habe ich gleiche Flasche, bei vollem Heizbetrieb, innerhalb von halbe Stunde erwärmt. Achtung (Verkäufer-Nauticool Ltd) das Gerät ist mit UK Stecker (220-240V) versehen, Für Eurostecker braucht man Adapter für paar Euro!

super, immer wieder, im Auto, im Urlaub, zuhause beim grillen, ob auf 12 oder 230 Volt, für kalt oder warm und auch weiter zu empfehlen

Great product with a chill down to -30C below ambient from a bottom fan with digital control. Also has a heating facility too to keep food/drinks hot.Great price too. Thanks
