Kendama originated in Japan about two hundred years ago as a game or toy. Recently, the Ministry of Education in Japan has included Kendama into the national elementary school curriculum. Studies have showed that playing with the Kendama helps concentration and strengthen a persons balance and lower body. The winners of the Women's World Soccer Cup, the Japanese team used kendama in their practices. This Kendama in made of Japanese beech in Yamagata Prefecture by craftsmen.
